Impact Moling.

Impact mole for new water supply, renewing old lead pipes.

How Impact Moling Works:

  1. Preparation: Two pits are excavated: a launch pit where the mole starts and a reception pit where it emerges.

  2. Moling Process: The mole is placed in the launch pit and driven through the soil towards the reception pit. Its hammering action displaces the soil, creating a tunnel for the new pipe.

  3. Pipe Installation: Once the mole reaches the reception pit, the new pipe is attached and pulled back through the created borehole to the launch pit, completing the installation.

Advantages of Impact Moling for Water Supply:

  • Minimal Surface Disruption: This technique reduces the need for large-scale digging, preserving existing landscapes, driveways, and other structures.

  • Cost-Effective: By minimizing excavation, labor, and restoration costs, impact moling often proves to be a more economical solution compared to traditional trenching methods.

  • Faster Completion: The streamlined process allows for quicker installation times, reducing inconvenience for property owners.

  • Environmental Benefits: With less soil disturbance, there is a reduced impact on the environment, making it a more sustainable choice.

Considerations:

  • Soil Conditions: Impact moling is most effective in cohesive soils like clay, silt, and peat. Loose gravel or sandy conditions may pose challenges due to potential borehole instability.

  • Accuracy: While advancements have improved steering capabilities, ensuring precise alignment remains crucial to avoid unintended utility strikes.

In summary, impact moling offers an efficient and less invasive alternative for installing or replacing water supply pipes, ducting's for other services, fiber and electric cables. Particularly suited for projects where preserving surface integrity is essential.

We can mole holes up to 75mm therefore allowing us to install pipework up to 63mm. Our skilled engineers are adept at handling various ground conditions ensuring each project is completed with precision and efficiency. From the planning stage to execution and completion. We work closely with our clients to ensure all detail are attended to and complete satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@northwestwatermains.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We able to mole in one shot a maximum of 15 metres. This is dependant upon ground conditions and location of other utilites.

Before we commence any work we do a full survey of the area using our cable avoidance tool to check for any underground utilities. If we are crossing anything we will usually have to carry out an excavation to avoid any damage.

In most cases we can find a solution to avoid or minimise any disruption. We are experts at reinstating whether it be tarmac, block paving, concrete or flags. you'll hardly know we have been there.
